Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, have arrested five suspected kidnappers in the Rander forest area of Abeokuta North Local Government following coordinated intelligence-led operations.
The suspects, believed to be Fulani herdsmen, were apprehended after sustained surveillance and strategic monitoring of the forest, which had reportedly become a source of concern for surrounding communities.
The corps disclosed that two of the suspects were first arrested at about 8 p.m. on April 29 with the assistance of local hunters who possess extensive knowledge of the terrain, while three others were captured about 13 hours later during a follow-up operation.
Security sources said the clampdown followed repeated complaints by residents over suspicious movements and the growing fear of kidnapping activities within the area.
The latest operation mirrors similar anti-kidnapping offensives recorded in parts of the South-West, including Ondo State and Oyo State, where local security outfits have intensified forest patrols to curb criminal activities. Community leaders in Abeokuta North have commended Amotekun’s swift intervention, describing it as a major boost to ongoing efforts to secure rural communities from rising security threats.
