The Acting Customs Area Controller of Ogun I Command, Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, on February 3, 2026, visited His Royal Majesty, Dr. Yisa Sola Adeniyi Olaniyan, the Onipokia of Ipokia Kingdom, to strengthen the partnership between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the traditional leadership of the region.
Comptroller Afeni, who was accompanied by other key officials, expressed gratitude to the Onipokia and other traditional leaders for their continued support in maintaining peace and security within Ipokia Kingdom. Highlighting the significance of traditional institutions, he emphasized the vital role they play in advancing national security and combating illicit trade.
Afeni underscored the Nigeria Customs Service's core mandates, which include trade facilitation, revenue generation, and anti-smuggling operations, stressing the need for community collaboration in addressing the challenges of smuggling. He urged the traditional council to continue their efforts in educating the public about the detrimental effects of illicit trade on national development.
The Acting Controller also highlighted the Nigeria Customs Service’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which aim to discourage smuggling and foster sustainable development within host communities. He reiterated the importance of such initiatives in enhancing the overall security and well-being of the region.
In response, His Royal Majesty, Oba Yisa Sola Adeniyi Olaniyan, praised Comptroller Afeni’s leadership and his commitment to upholding global best practices within the Nigeria
Customs Service. The monarch, who warmly welcomed Afeni as a “son of the soil,” pledged the full support of Ipokia Kingdom in the fight against smuggling and reaffirmed the community's dedication to supporting the Federal Government's economic goals.
