Two persons were killed in a fatal road crash after a commercial Peugeot J5 bus burst into flames following a collision with a Mack truck at Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere–J4 corridor in Ogun State on Thursday morning.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the accident occurred at about 5:10 a.m., involving a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus with an unknown registration number.
The Ogun State Sector Command of the FRSC disclosed that four adult male occupants were involved in the crash.
Two of them died on the spot, while the remaining two escaped unhurt.
Preliminary findings by the Corps indicated that speeding and route violation were responsible for the crash, with the impact causing the front section of the bus to catch fire and become completely burnt.
The FRSC said its rescue team arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately diverted traffic to the alternative carriageway to prevent gridlock while clearing the wreckage. The bodies of the deceased were later evacuated by operatives of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at a mortuary.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the victims and urged motorists to shun speeding and dangerous driving practices. He warned that speed and route violations, particularly during poor visibility and on wet roads, remain major causes of fatal crashes, reaffirming the command's commitment to safer roads through strict enforcement, public enlightenment and prompt emergency response.
