The Ogun State Police Command has neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle, mobile phones and other exhibits following an intelligence-led operation after the abduction and subsequent rescue of the Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris.
The command disclosed that the monarch was kidnapped at about 7:30 p.m. on June 30, 2026, when armed men invaded his residence in Okun Owa and whisked him away. Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, ordered the immediate deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to secure the victim's release and arrest the perpetrators.
According to the police, sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated tactical operations forced the kidnappers to release the prince unharmed on July 3, 2026. The operatives thereafter intensified efforts to track down members of the gang responsible for the abduction.
The command said its operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis where the suspects were sighted.
The kidnappers reportedly opened fire on the operatives, leading to a gun duel in which two of the suspects were killed, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
Police said one AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to have been used for ransom collection and other incriminating exhibits were recovered from the scene. The corpses of the slain suspects have been deposited in a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members.
Ojajuni commended the operatives for their professionalism and assured residents that the command would sustain intelligence-driven operations to rid the state of criminal elements.
