The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has reaffirmed the commitment of the state police command to stronger collaboration with security agencies to enhance border security and intelligence sharing across the state's international border corridors.
Ojajuni made the pledge during a familiarisation visit to the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, Idiroko, where he was received by the Acting Customs Area Controller and Chairman of the Joint Border Security Committee, Deputy Controller Oladapo Olukayode Afeni.
The visit also featured an interactive session with representatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Forest Guards, Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service, So-Safe Corps, Port Health Services, and the Permanent Secretary, Inter-Border Security Formation.
Addressing the gathering, the police commissioner commended the Customs Area Command and other security agencies for maintaining peace and security within the border corridor. He described the existing synergy among the agencies as exemplary, stressing that sustained intelligence sharing, joint operations and coordinated security strategies remained crucial to tackling emerging security threats. Ojajuni also praised the contributions of the Nigeria Customs Service to national security, economic growth and revenue generation, while calling for improved operational coordination under Operation Kosaye.
Responding, Afeni described the visit as timely and significant, saying it would further strengthen the long-standing relationship among security agencies operating along the Idiroko border.
He also acknowledged the support previously provided by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of ICT and Supervising DIG for the South-West, DIG Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade, during his tenure as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, noting that such collaboration had enhanced security operations within the corridor.
The Customs boss further commended Ojajuni for the achievements recorded since assuming office as Ogun State Commissioner of Police, attributing the relative peace along the border to the unity, professionalism and mutual trust among members of the Joint Border Security Committee. He said the meeting ended with participating agencies reaffirming their commitment to sustained intelligence sharing, joint operations and closer collaboration to ensure a secure and crime-free border environment.
