The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, has prosecuted and secured the conviction of 63 traffic offenders as it officially commenced a special enforcement exercise tagged "Operation Abo, Safe Passage" to strengthen road safety and enforce traffic regulations across Ogun State.
The offenders were arraigned before a Mobile Court sitting at the FRSC Sagamu Unit Command on Tuesday. The court, presided over by Magistrate Fisayo W. Okuboyejo, convicted all 63 offenders without discharging or adjourning any case, a development the Corps described as a demonstration of its commitment to ensuring swift justice for traffic-related offences.
During the exercise, the Corps recorded 135 traffic offences. The most common violation was the failure to install or use Speed Limiting Devices, with 31 cases, followed by driver's licence violations (20), overloading (15), vehicle licence violations (13), light and signal violations (11), seat belt offences (9), number plate violations (7), wrongful vehicle violations (7), certificate of roadworthiness offences (5), fire extinguisher violations (5), tyre violations (5), dangerous driving (3), passenger loading offences (2), fake number plate offences (2), child restraint violation (1), failure to comply with a marshal's directive (1), and vehicle mirror violation (1).
Speaking on the exercise, the Ogun Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, said the special intervention patrol was introduced to reduce road traffic crashes through aggressive enforcement, public enlightenment, and the prosecution of offenders. He warned motorists against violating traffic regulations, stressing that reckless driving and other offences capable of endangering lives would continue to attract stiff sanctions.
The FRSC Ogun Sector Command also commended the judiciary, security agencies, and members of the public for supporting its road safety campaign.
The command urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with its personnel and comply with all traffic laws to ensure safer highways across the state.
