Police Arrest Three Over Murder of Ogun Woman, Security Guard

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a businesswoman, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, following a swift investigation that combined intelligence gathering, forensic analysis and technical tracking.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abeokuta on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, disclosed that the incident was reported at the Owode-Egba Police Station on June 21 after suspicious activities were noticed at the deceased's residence. Detectives who responded to the scene discovered the lifeless body of the security guard inside the security house, while Madam Oyesiku was found dead in a pool of blood in the main building.

The police boss said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased's Lexus RX 330 vehicle had been stolen after the attack. Through intelligence-led operations and technical tracking, the vehicle was recovered the following day at Onikolobo area of Ogun State. Although the number plates and ignition key had been removed, detectives found the registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats, enabling them to confirm ownership of the vehicle.

Ojajuni further revealed that a handwritten note recovered from the crime scene was subjected to forensic examination, providing critical leads that led investigators to the principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, who was arrested at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta. Subsequent operations resulted in the arrest of two alleged accomplices, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, bringing all identified suspects linked to the crime into police custody.

According to the Commissioner, the principal suspect confessed to planning the attack and recruiting the two others, claiming he wanted to "teach her a lesson" over grievances arising from his previous employment with the deceased. 

The suspects allegedly overpowered the security guard, used him to gain access to the residence, murdered Madam Oyesiku and later killed the guard before escaping with the victim's vehicle. 

Ojajuni said detectives have recovered several exhibits, including a broken hammer, cutlass, plank and other items connected to the crime, adding that investigations are ongoing while the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
