ICAN Ota District Installs 15th Chairman, Charts New Course for Professional Excellence and National Development

 

The Ota and District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has inaugurated Mr. Isaac Adebukola Lambo, FCA, as its 15th Chairman and sworn in members of the Executive Committee for the 2026/2027 chairmanship year, amid renewed calls for professional excellence, responsible leadership, and national development. 

The investiture ceremony, which attracted accounting professionals, traditional leaders, public office holders, business executives, and stakeholders from across Ogun State and beyond, also featured the valedictory address of the immediate past Chairman, Mr. Ganiyu Semiu, FCA, who reflected on the achievements recorded during his administration and expressed confidence in the future of the district society. 

Speaking during the event, Semiu described his tenure as a period of purposeful service, strategic engagement, and institutional growth. According to him, the district strengthened its visibility and influence through a series of courtesy visits and partnerships involving government agencies, corporate organizations, and professional bodies, thereby enhancing the image of ICAN and the accounting profession within the community. 

The former chairman noted that despite prevailing economic challenges, Nigeria's economy is showing signs of gradual stabilization. He, however, stressed that the nation requires prudent and accountable leadership capable of inspiring public confidence. Semiu maintained that economic reforms would yield greater results when leaders demonstrate sacrifice and align governance with the realities faced by ordinary citizens. 

In his acceptance remarks, the newly inaugurated Chairman, Mr. Isaac Adebukola Lambo, FCA, reaffirmed the commitment of the district society to advancing professional development and promoting ethical leadership. He described the accounting profession as a critical driver of economic growth, transparency, and institutional sustainability, emphasizing that accountants remain central to strengthening both public and private sector governance. 

Lambo, a respected accounting practitioner, consultant, and mentor, stated that his administration would focus on capacity building, professional mentorship, and stakeholder engagement. While acknowledging the current economic difficulties confronting Nigerians, he expressed optimism that ongoing reforms, supported by responsible citizenship and professional integrity, would eventually deliver sustainable growth and prosperity. 

A Fellow of ICAN, Chief Ayodeji Iyuade, who also spoke at the event, described the Ota and District Society as a platform that has significantly contributed to the professional and personal development of its members. He noted that the society's regular technical sessions and monthly meetings have continued to expose members to contemporary issues affecting business, governance, healthcare, and national development. 

According to Iyuade, the district society has become a centre for knowledge sharing, mentorship, and lifelong learning. He urged Nigerians to remain patient with ongoing economic reforms, likening the country's present challenges to a necessary recovery process that requires collective understanding and sacrifice before long-term benefits can be achieved. 

Adding his voice to discussions on nation-building, the Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government and ICAN member, Mr. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, emphasized that sustainable development can only be achieved when citizens complement government efforts. He observed that many people are quick to blame leaders for societal shortcomings while neglecting their own civic responsibilities. 

Wasiu called for greater public commitment to tax compliance, environmental responsibility, and the protection of public infrastructure. He further urged accountants and other professionals to uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability, noting that ethical conduct remains essential to fostering trust, economic stability, and social progress. 

The ceremony also provided an opportunity for family members to reflect on the significance of leadership and service. Speaking on behalf of the Lambo family, Mrs. Elizabeth Ojuolape-Lambo expressed gratitude to God for His faithfulness and guidance over the years. She described her husband as a committed professional whose passion for mentoring others and solving problems has positively impacted many lives. 

Mrs. Lambo encouraged spouses and family members of leaders to remain supportive, prayerful, and encouraging, noting that strong family values and moral support play a crucial role in effective leadership. She expressed confidence that the new chairman's tenure would foster innovation, professional growth, and greater service to society. 

The investiture concluded with a renewed commitment by members of the Ota and District Society to strengthen the accounting profession, deepen stakeholder engagement, and contribute meaningfully to national development. Participants expressed optimism that under the leadership of Mr. Isaac Adebukola Lambo, FCA, the society would build on existing achievements and further consolidate its position as a leading professional body committed to excellence, accountability, and sustainable development.
