:Ekiti 2026: Wike Backs Oluyede, Sparking APC Unease; Ikere Women Rally Behind PDP Candidate

In a dramatic turn of events ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reportedly thrown his support behind PDP candidate Wole Oluyede, a development that is shaking the All Progressives Congress (APC) camp.

The Wole Oluyede Campaign Organisation disclosed the endorsement in a statement released Monday in Ado Ekiti. According to Press Secretary Idowu Oluwole Adelusi, the backing followed a strategic meeting in Abuja, during which Wike—widely regarded as a key political heavyweight—pledged his full support to secure Oluyede’s victory at the polls.

The campaign organisation said the move has reinvigorated the PDP, presenting the party as a united front ahead of the election. Meanwhile, sources suggest the endorsement has stirred anxiety in the APC, particularly within Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s camp, which observers have described as politically fragile. Oyebanji is currently awaiting a court ruling that could significantly impact his candidacy.

Amid the political shift, grassroots momentum appears to be building. In Oluyede’s hometown of Ikere Ekiti, hundreds of women visited the PDP candidate’s residence on Easter Sunday in a show of solidarity. Led by the Onibedo of Ikere, Engineer Adepoju Dada Dare, the delegation pledged unwavering support for Oluyede, hailing his family’s longstanding engagement with the community.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Kemi Oluyede welcomed the supporters and urged them to transform their enthusiasm into votes. The gathering, which featured festive activities and gifts in the spirit of Easter, highlighted the growing grassroots energy behind Oluyede’s campaign and marked a visible statement of strength for the PDP in Ekiti State.
