The Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has thrown its weight behind the growing coalition among opposition political parties to present a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, describing the move as a bold strategy to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration and offer Nigerians a credible alternative.
The endorsement followed resolutions reached at the Opposition Political Parties National Summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where key political leaders and stakeholders across the country converged to deliberate on the future of opposition politics and the urgent need for unity ahead of the next presidential election.
The summit, hosted by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, focused largely on building a formidable alliance capable of wresting power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Leading the ADC Ogun delegation was the state chairman, Otunba Olufemi Soluade, who joined other opposition figures in advocating stronger collaboration among political parties.
The summit drew major political heavyweights including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Tambuwal, ADC national leader Ralph Nwosu, as well as leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition blocs.
ADC Ogun, in its communiqué, maintained that opposition unity remains critical to addressing Nigeria’s worsening socio-economic and governance challenges.
