The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has officially outlined his policing agenda, emphasizing discipline, transparency, and enhanced community collaboration. Speaking at his maiden press briefing held at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ojajuni pledged to uphold the principle that citizens are the ultimate “bosses” of the Nigeria Police Force, aligning with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu.
Ojajuni reiterated his commitment to professionalism, accountability, and human dignity, warning against corruption, abuse of office, and incivility. “Discipline remains the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force. Professionalism and strict adherence to the rule of law must define our conduct at all times,” he stressed. He called on officers to treat residents with respect while urging citizens to cooperate with law enforcement efforts.
To enhance transparency and public trust, the Commissioner announced that the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) will serve as the primary platform for reporting misconduct. Leveraging digital tools such as WhatsApp, Facebook, X, Instagram, the Gateway Shield App, and the Command Control Room, citizens can now lodge complaints and share intelligence in real time. Internal monitoring mechanisms, including the X-Squad and Police Monitoring Unit, will ensure accountability and a zero-tolerance approach to professional misconduct.
In recent time Lagos and Rivers, demonstrate that proactive policing combined with robust citizen engagement significantly reduces crime rates and strengthens public confidence in law enforcement. Ojajuni also replicate this model in Ogun State by fostering partnerships with traditional rulers, community leaders, the media, and other security agencies, creating a collaborative network for crime prevention and peacebuilding.
Finally, the Commissioner underscored his commitment to officer welfare, describing himself as a “welfarist” dedicated to boosting morale within the Command. He appealed to residents to provide timely and credible information to aid policing efforts, promising responsive leadership and proactive security measures. “It shall be an unrelenting service to sustain the existing peace and ensure a safe and secure Ogun State,” Ojajuni concluded.
