The Oke Ona Grammar School marked a monumental milestone as it celebrated its 64th Founders' Day with a series of vibrant activities reflecting the institution’s legacy of academic excellence and character development.
The event kicked off with an enchanting musical performance, setting a tone of celebration and gratitude. Students, staff, alumni, and members of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) gathered to pay tribute to the school’s enduring legacy.
In his welcome address, the Hon. ABAYOMI White, the National president highlighted the school’s remarkable journey since its inception over six decades ago. He spoke with pride about the school’s core values of nurturing young minds, fostering strong character, and preparing students to become responsible citizens. "This anniversary is not just a celebration of our past, but a reminder to you, our students, that you are the torchbearers of this legacy. Carry it forward with integrity, perseverance, and excellence," he remarked.
In his own speech the school Principal,Mr. Olukayode said the celebration also included a historical reflection by an alumnus, who shared the school’s humble beginnings and its evolution into an institution of high regard
. The day’s festivities featured a captivating cultural display with traditional dance performances, encapsulating the richness of the school's heritage.
A highlight of the event was the intense final round of the debate competition on the topic, "Should Social Media Be Banned for Students Under 18?" which sparked thoughtful discussions among students.
The Old Students' Association of Oke Ona Grammar School has embarked on a significant project to construct a perimeter fence around the school, aimed at ensuring the safety and security of its students. The initiative, which spans decades, began with contributions from alumni from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
The school, which occupies an expansive 80 acres of land, had long been without a fence, leaving it vulnerable to external threats. However, in an act of goodwill, the association has taken it upon themselves to fund and oversee the building of this vital infrastructure.
The new perimeter fence will serve as a protective boundary for the school, ensuring that students can study and learn in a safe, secure environment. The project is a testament to the enduring commitment of the Oke Ona Grammar School alumni to give back to their alma mater, enhancing the school's security with the support of manual security personnel. This initiative will go a long way in providing a more conducive atmosphere for both students and staff.
The Founders' Day celebration concluded with heartfelt goodwill messages from representatives of the Old Students Association and the PTA Chairman.
