In a swift response to circulating rumors on social media, the Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in collaboration with the Ijebu Ode Local Government, has categorically dismissed claims that three prominent chiefs of Ijebu land—Chief Abimbola Okenla, the Kakanfo; Chief Tunde Odulaja, the Lapoekun; and Chief Lekan Oshifeso, the Madasa—have been suspended from the Council of Chiefs.
The joint statement issued by both authorities clarified that no suspension or removal has taken place, and no such action has been approved by any recognized traditional institution or the Ogun State Government. The officials termed the social media report as a deliberate attempt to sow confusion and unrest within the Ijebu land community.
According to the statement, chieftaincy matters in the state are governed by established laws, customs, and a clearly defined due process. No official procedure has been initiated to address or challenge the positions of the named chiefs. The authorities emphasized that any claims to the contrary were entirely unfounded and aimed at disrupting the peace of the community.
Hon. Dare Alebiosu, Chairman of the Ijebu Ode Local Government, and Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, the Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, reaffirmed that the public should disregard the malicious report and rely solely on official government communications for accurate information.
