Ogun State Government Moves to Complete 2,000 Kilometres of Roads by 2027

The Ogun State Government has announced a significant milestone in its ongoing road construction projects, revealing that over 1,600 kilometres of roads have been completed since 2019. With an ambitious goal to finish at least 2,000 kilometres before the end of Governor Dapo Abiodun's tenure, the government is focused on expanding its road network across the state.

During an appearance on Sunrise Daily, the Commissioner for Works, Ade Akinsanya, outlined the ongoing efforts to tackle the state's road infrastructure challenges.

 He noted that the administration inherited over 4,000 kilometres of dilapidated roads and has since implemented a comprehensive strategy to enhance connectivity, boost food security, and support economic development. "The task is enormous, but we are committed to making a difference," Akinsanya said, emphasizing that road projects are actively being undertaken in all 20 local governments.

Major projects underway include the reconstruction of the 70-kilometre Ota–Abeokuta road, as well as substantial work in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo, and Akute. Additionally, previously impassable roads, such as the Ajuwon–Akute, Alhaji Kosoko–Akute, and Yakoyo–Alagbole routes, have been rehabilitated, improving access between Ogun and its neighbouring Lagos communities. "The impact of these roadworks on the local economy and daily commuting is already visible," Akinsanya added.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, also defended the administration’s infrastructure efforts, noting that the governor had promised to ensure that infrastructure development is evenly spread across the state. "The 16 kilometres often referenced as a milestone in one part of Ogun is just a small fraction of the total roads delivered," Akinmade said, highlighting the significance of projects in various towns, including Abeokuta.

Both officials reaffirmed the administration’s focus on delivering transformative road infrastructure in Ogun State, with the goal of reaching the target of 2,000 kilometres of completed roads before Governor Abiodun’s term concludes.
