The Ogun State Government has assured citizens of robust funding and logistical backing for the upcoming measles-rubella vaccination campaign, which is set to begin on January 27 and conclude on February 5, 2026. This pledge was made during a strategic meeting convened by the State Task Force on Primary Health Care, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele expressed gratitude to key stakeholders in the healthcare sector, including the Ministry of Health, health partners, and UNICEF, for their ongoing contributions, especially the provision of ambulance boats for riverine communities. She emphasized that the government remains committed to overcoming any challenges and ensuring the successful delivery of primary healthcare across Ogun State. The Deputy Governor also reaffirmed Governor Dapo Abiodun’s unwavering support for all public health initiatives in the state.
Highlighting some of the challenges raised during the meeting, Engr. Salako-Oyedele pledged that these would be promptly brought to the Governor’s attention for swift resolution. She further appealed to various community groups, religious organizations, and the media to enhance their awareness efforts, particularly through the use of social media platforms and influencers, in order to effectively target parents and young people in the vaccination campaign.
Dr. Tomi Coker, the Commissioner for Health, praised the collaborative efforts of local and international partners who continue to bolster Ogun's healthcare system. In her speech, she noted that the task force meeting served as a platform to assess the state’s progress and to align efforts as the vaccination exercise approaches. She also underscored the importance of community involvement in making the campaign a success.
The Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, presented an overview of the board’s performance, revealing significant improvements across most local governments, despite challenges in infrastructure and logistics. The vaccination campaign, which aims to cover children aged 9 months to 14 years, will be one of the most extensive immunization efforts the state has ever undertaken. With over 8,000 health workers mobilized, the state is set to ensure widespread coverage across schools, health centers, and communities. UNICEF representative Mrs. Moloku also expressed support, applauding Ogun’s commitment to eliminating preventable diseases and reaffirming the organization’s continued partnership in the campaign’s success.
